How Do You Lift Weights To Build Muscle Mass?

      By admin | April 24, 2008

Weight training is probably the most common form of strength training for developing the size of you skeletal Muscles. Weight training is primarily an isotonic form of exercise, since the force needed by the muscle to push or pull weighted objects should not change.

The only change that will occur in practice is that the force produced by the muscle group being exerted, will decrease as the muscle group encounters fatigue. In this article we will look at how do you lift weight to build muscle mass.

Weight training is also a proven life changing form of exercise. Choosing a weight training program that is best for you is crucial in getting results over a period of time and in building muscle mass. It is proven to work it is just going to take time, patience and dedication on your part. When considering weight training, it is important to also consider the type of equipment that you will be using.

Although weight training is similar to body building, they each have a different objective in mind. Weight trainers tend to focus on overall strength and use compound weight exercises in order to achieve that goal. Bodybuilders on the other hand, typically use isolation type exercises to visually separate and focus on particular muscle groups and improve the overall skeletal muscle symmetry.

While there is always some level of risk involved in working with weighted objects, studies have shown that weight training is one of the safest physical activities for personal fitness. Again, you can dramatically change the way that you look through weight training, but it going to take time, so be patient.

When beginning your workout regimen, remember that your muscles will work less efficiently when they are moving quickly. Higher muscle force can be produced with slower movement. Muscle building and high impact exercise strengthens the muscle and tendons that connect the muscle to the bone.

Slower movements will help to concentrate the muscles fibers at the connection point, which will stimulate muscle growth more quickly, than just rapid muscle movement would. The muscle craves oxygen and needs oxygen to grow. Slow movements help the body to replace oxygen in the muscle through blood flow and will give you an overall more concentrated, efficient muscle workout. The overall concept of muscle fitness is simple.

The human body is basically lazy. It does not like to work. When it lifts weight it exerts energy and the less muscle fiber that there is, the more exertion that takes place. By continually exercising muscle groups your body is learning to accommodate the exertion by growing and strengthening the muscle, so that over time it takes less overall energy to lift the same amount of weight.

These slower exercises with weights will go a long way towards your body’s ability to grow and strengthen these muscles groups. Also, be sure to let your body rest between reps. While you may be ready mentally for the next rep, exercising too quickly or rushing your workout can cause your muscle to build up lactic acid. So, take your time and focus on a clean and concentrated exercise.

Lifting dumbbells is the simplest and most basic form of weight training. Lifting weights isn’t just for “muscle-heads” anymore. Lifting too much too soon is sure-fire way to pick up an injury. Lifting free weights improves your co-ordination by improving the neuromuscular pathways that connect your muscles to the central nervous system. Lifting 30 pounds using a dumbbell requires significantly more force than moving 30 pounds on a weight stack due to the use of pulleys.

Whatever your objectives- whether you want to build muscle mass over a long period or gain short term results in strengthening your body, remember to be patient. The results will come over time, but the difference in how they come and in how you feel about them is in you. Take your time, focus, stay positive, and soon you will have that muscle beach body that you have always wanted.
