Beijing 2008 Was A Bad Bet By The Ioc

      Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

The 2008 Summer Olympic Games and events in Beijing are still several months away. However, sad and disturbing world headlines concerning China and these Olympic Games are everywhere. Last week the Chinese government reported that air pollution in Beijing reached its highest level on record as a sandstorm from the north shrouded the capital in dust, choking pedestrians, and delaying flights.

New York Yankees - New Joe, Old Joe

      Saturday, July 19th, 2008

The New York Yankees go into the 2008 MLB season without Manager Joe Torre for the first time since 1995. Joe Girardi, new Yankees Manager, has some big cleats to fill.

Word comes from Yankees camp that things slid some under Joe Torre’s end game. Practice not as crisp, details not as clear, results certainly not as before. Joe Torre was given a decent but hardly overly-gracious from the New York Yankees during the MLB off-season.

      Sunday, May 25th, 2008

In a possible NBA Playoff preview, the Houston Rockets travel West to meet up with Shaq and the Phoenix Suns.

The Phoenix Suns have stolen the Houston Rockets mojo and made it their own. Riding a 6-game winning streak, they entertain the suddenly weakened Houston Rockets. The Suns and Rockets sport identical 46-22 records currently, while the Rockets have the #3-seed thanks to leading their division. The Phoenix Suns are planted in the #5-seed in the NBA West.

Kevin Garnett Brings Intensity, Intelligence, Intangibles

      Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Kevin Garnett has brought the Boston Celtics out of the history books, and back onto center stage of the NBA. Kevin Garnett, a premiere NBA forward for virtually all of his NBA career, has always been better than the teams he has played on. Now, finally, in the twilight of his career, his best chance for an NBA Title has arrived.

A sure-fire hall-of-famer, Kevin Garnett has brought life back to the Boston Celtics. Alongside Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett has exploded into the mainstream NBA yet again, allowing us to remember just how good, how intense, and how hungry he still is.

      Female Bodybuilding Routines

      Thursday, May 15th, 2008

I wanted to share my personal bodybuilding routines that I use in my weekly workout regiment. These are good, but remember you need to apply this on a regular basis, with a proper diet, to get the best results.
Each exercise is performed for 3 sets of 8 reps.

      Monday: Back, Biceps and Traps

      Manchester United 3 Liverpool 0

      Thursday, May 15th, 2008

United staked their claim for successive championships with a comfortable win over their rivals and effectively putting out Liverpool from the championship race.

They went in front through an unlikely source when Wes Brown rose up high to head home a good cross from Wayne Rooney in the 1st half. The game was then turned on its head when Javier Mascherano got himself sent off for what the referee deemed to be showing dissent.

      Understanding Cricket

      Monday, April 28th, 2008

Cricket, although international and popular all over the world, is quintessentially a very English game. It is played between two teams, each consisting of eleven players. At any time on the field are two from one side (the batting side) and eleven from the opposing side (who would be bowling/fielding).

The first team that have all eleven players on the pitch are the fielding team and the team that have just two players on the field are the batting team. Cricket is usually played on a large oval pitch on which the fielders are distributed around the pitch according to the instructions of their captain and bowler. In cricket there are specific fielding positions on the pitch, all with their own unique name.

Soccer Drills For Coaches - Practice Makes Perfect

      Monday, April 28th, 2008

Coaches have used soccer drills for years to teach a variety of moves and strategies to players. While many players argue that repetitive drills are boring, the benefits of practicing the same skill over and over again can make the difference between a team full of qualified players who are ready to go up against even the toughest team, and a team with little or no teamwork capabilities or soccer skill.

The goal of the coach is to find drill that not only teaches specific playing skills, but which are fun for players. Here are a few basic skills drills to get your team started:

      Sacrifice Techniques

      Sunday, April 27th, 2008

Sacrifice techniques are normally associated with arts where grappling and throws are emphasised such as Judo, Wrestling arts, Ju Jutsu, BJJ etc. The Kodokan Judo syllabus has a number of techniques which are actually referred to as Sutemi Waza (sacrifice techniques). They nearly always depend on the thrower falling backwards, sidewards or frontwards towards the floor in the hope of taking the opponent with them. Obviously if the person being thrown counters this or sees the techniques coming, the person performing them could fall to the floor alone, and find him/herself in an awkward position where he/she can be dominated. BJJ practitioners use a strategy when standing, to take the fight to the floor by jumping into there opponents chest, hoping to land in the guard position which they could then pull there opponent down using there body weight. Also a technique that has been used by most grapplers is the flying armbar. Rarely does it work, but is spectacular to see if carried out successfully.

Golf, Lower Scoring And The Short Game

      Friday, April 25th, 2008

In my instruction I have found it extremely useful to break the swing down into its component parts. I divide the swing into 1/8 segments and each of these segments add another power producer to the motion. The first is the 1/8 shot, this is what the hands do to release the club, the second component (the 1/4 shot) is the use of the elbows and what they do to add power to the releasing action of the club, the 3rd component (the 3/8 shot) is the setting of the #7 position of the left arm (where the left arm goes as it crosses the chest) combined with the turn of the hips as the pivot returns the left arm. As the pivot of the turning hips return the left arm it remains back across the chest, it does not swing forward. And finally the 4th component (the 1/2 shot) which adds the shifting of the weight, and the additional 1/8 of the power.
